A blog about riding and horses
The horse is the perfect—albeit sometimes unwelcome—mirror. It does not faithfully and submissively answer the question, "Who is the fairest of them all?" No, the horse always holds up an unvarnished mirror to us. Yet this is precisely what makes these animals so valuable to us humans and our personal growth. It is difficult to hide anything from a horse; it intuitively senses both our weaknesses and our strengths.

... and the heartbeat. Even when we, as riders, try to calm a horse with our voice after a problematic incident, the animals detect the discrepancy between our actual state of mind—ranging from agitation to anger—and the words we are speaking. We humans tend to underestimate this gap, as we are so accustomed to verbal communication and believe it to be the most crucial aspect of interaction.
Human body signals
Horses can also sense our heartbeat and detect our breathing—and not just from a distance of a few centimeters. As various studies have shown, horses are also capable of interpreting human facial expressions and fully understand the difference between a good mood, fear, anger, and so on.
