The equipment for the rider: Safety first.
Since horses are flight animals and can react unpredictably, the protection of the rider is paramount when it comes to clothing.
The riding helmet: It is the undisputed lifesaver in the saddle. Important: The helmet must be replaced after every fall onto the head, as even invisible hairline cracks in the material can compromise its protective function.
Riding breeches: They are highly elastic and have no seams on the inside to prevent painful chafing. A leatherette or modern silicone grip patch (as knee or full seat) ensures a secure, non-slip fit in the saddle.
Riding boots or ankle boots: Normal footwear is forbidden. Riding boots must have a pronounced heel so that the foot cannot slip through the stirrup and get caught in the event of a fall. The high shaft of boots (or chaps over ankle boots) also protects the calf from being pinched by the stirrup leathers.
Safety vests and protectors: They protect the spine, ribs, and internal organs. Besides classic foam vests , airbag vests are very popular: They are lightweight for everyday use and inflate instantly in milliseconds in the event of a fall using a CO₂ cartridge.
The riding crop: It is never used for punishment , but is an extension of the rider's arm. As a subtle "attention aid," it gently touches the horse on the shoulder (short jumping crop) or on the hindquarters (long dressage crop) to clarify signals.

A horse can only move calmly and painlessly if its equipment fits perfectly. Poorly fitting equipment inevitably leads to tension, pressure sores, or behavioral problems.
Saddle: The bridge to the horse's back
The saddle distributes the rider's weight evenly across the supporting muscles behind the horse's shoulder. It absolutely must be individually fitted to the horse's back by a professional (saddler).
Saddle pad (saddle blanket/pad): It lies directly under the saddle, absorbs sweat and protects the leather from dirt.
